"There is a smorgasbord of cheaper alternatives to Krytox mainly based on silicones instead of the more expensive chlorinated, fluoridated hydrocarbons used in Krytox."
Qui invece chiedevo se fosse necessario proteggere le guarnizioni dagli uv e a quanto pare non sono loro il problema (e chiedevo info sul gummi pflege, usato anche in BMW tempo fa se non erro)
posted a reference to the BMW seal lubricant for their Z3 convertible somewhere on this or another forum recently however I am unable to find it using the search facility. Will keep trying as BMW changed the lubricant.
What I am saying is the most serious problem is loss of plasticiser by evaporation from the seals causing them to go hard resulting in loss of sealing and unwanted noises. There does not appear to be a UV degradation problem which causes these problems and if there were, we would find these occurring in Australia earlier than elsewhere in the world.
My own experience is there does not appear to have been any serious UV degradation of the seals in my partner's Eos - I did try one experiment last year to see how long it took for the seals to harden over the summer period and how quickly they recovered after the Krytox was applied. Hardening problems in the form of squeaks and groans became evident after 9 months and these disappeared within 24 hours after the Krytox was applied. The outer seal surfaces exposed to the sun do not show any evidence of UV degradation after 3+ years of exposure and use of Krytox.
David Paul in Arizona USA would also be likely to experience early onset of UV seal degradation and loss of plasticiser as his climatic conditions are similar to ours with the exception that his UV levels are less than ours as the Antarctic "Hole in the Ozone Layer" responsible for increasing UV levels in Australia does not affect the USA.
Questo per la morbidezza ed elasticità delle guarnizioni
